Signed Paperbacks are here!

At the Risk of Forgetting paperback is here and it’s awesome! This is TOTALLY my favorite out of all my books. I went with the gloss this time, and it suits this cover so well. I mean, gorgeous! I’ll admit, I may or may not have slept with it under my pillow last night. I can’t wait to bring these along to my signings this year.

I’m going to be placing an order for paperbacks, so if you want a signed one, fill out the form. They should be live on Amazon here in the next few days, too.

She scurries back against the arm of the couch, my words alone scaring the crap out of her. Her chest rises rapidly and falls slower with a long, deep breath. “All the men I’ve met in the past two years did nothing but drink. I can’t help but wonder if you’re one of them.”

The hand holding my glass of scotch freezes in mid-air, and the breath I just took expands in my chest to the point it hurts and I can’t take air in or let it out. I’m suffocating, her words are choking me.

Using all my control, I force the air out through my nose. It’s a slow, painful process. Everything inside is screaming at me to let it out in a loud bellow of rage. My muscles tense with the desire to beat the fuck out of something. Before I break the glass, I lean forward and, as gently as I can manage in my drunk, violent state, I place it on the coffee table.

My back molars grind together so forcefully it’s a wonder one of them doesn’t snap right in half.

Then I move.

With perfect precision, I stand up, plant a knee in the couch, and throw myself in the direction of the girl. An arm lands on each side of her, one on the arm of the couch and one planted in the backrest, caging her in. The girl’s eyes go wild with fear at my swiftness and proximity, but I don’t give a single fuck. Her words cut deep. So deep, I don’t think I can staunch the bleed.

Lowering my face to hers until there’s nothing more than a centimeter of space between our lips, I force her gaze to mine. She tries to hide her head, but I’m one step away from physically holding it in place.

“I’m a goddamned man. A man who lives and breathes life without anyone telling me what the fuck I need to do. I want to drink, I’m going to drink. I want to fuck, I’m going to find a nice, willing, hot wet pussy to fuck. I want to drive, I’m going to hop on my motorcycle and take off without relaying my whereabouts to anybody. I’m a fuckin’ man.

“What I’m not is a lowlife piece of shit who abuses and rapes women to get his fuckin’ rocks off. What I’m not is a man who has a woman beneath him wearing nothing but a thin tee, and more helpless than an injured bird, and takes advantage of that. Don’t doubt for one fuckin’ second that I couldn’t rip those tiny clothes off your skinny ass and fuck the shit out of you and you couldn’t do one. single. thing. about it until I was good and done with you. Don’t ever doubt my power. But just because I could, doesn’t mean I ever fuckin’ would. Don’t lump me in with those goddamned pieces of shit all because I like to drink. Fuck!”

Finished with my tirade, I throw myself backwards off her, grab my glass, drain it, and trudge drunkenly to the sink. My hands tremble so hard they make little tap tap sounds against the metal basin, so I grip the counter top until my knuckles turn white. Guilt swamps me as the moment recedes, and I start to calm back down.  “All I said is true, but you also don’t have to question my restraint,” I whisper. My heart pounds in my chest as the words choke me and painful memories flash before my eyes. “I would never fuckin’ hurt a woman.”

New Secret Project for #TeaserTuesday

I’ve spent the past two days trying to decompress from my amazing weekend at Scripted Social Author Event in Des Moines, Iowa. I met a whole bunch of authors that I admire, and some of the sweetest readers to date. Even though I stumbled over my words and was more anxious than I probably let on, I think I did okay. It was amusing how many people said I look nothing like my Facebook Profile Picture, so if you think you know what I look like, you’ll just have to meet me to know for sure!

Moving on…

I’ve been desperately working away at Unleashing Sin, but let’s face it: if you’ve read Redesigning Fate or Resurrecting Her, you know what a stubborn ass he is. He is fighting me every step of the way of his story. So during those times of complete frustration when I just need a break, I’ve put my fingers back to the keyboard to work on a blank document and bam! A new WIP is born.

So here’s a little taste of my new secret untitled project. Hope you like it!

This is unedited and subject to change.

“Mrs. Hoskins!”

Not him. Anybody but him.

“Mrs. Hoskins. Wait!”

Please, spare me today. Just this once.

Nobody answers my silent prayer. That’s because I gave up on God about three-point-five months ago.

It’d be a miracle to go out in public and not be accosted by the glares or the harsh words that have followed me since that day. Sometimes people are nice enough to whisper them, but usually they have no problem shouting at me as I pass.  That’s my penance for raising a monster. I’m the town pariah.

The sun beats down on my bare shoulders with its warm rays as I walk through the town strip, but the heat does nothing to the perpetual chill inside me. The layer of ice frozen around my soul will never thaw. There’s no going back from what happened. I’ll be cold for the rest of my life.

“Mrs. Hoskins.” He caught up with me.

“It’s Ms.,” I reply quietly as I keep up my pace. The post office is in sight, only one more block and across the street. Not close enough to keep this conversation short. Or more to my preference, nonexistent.

“Right. I knew that. My apologies, ma’am. For the mistake. And the divorce. Shit, I’m messing this all up.”

I keep my lips sealed. From my peripheral I can see him rub the back of his neck and look away. Yeah buddy, I know how awkward this is so turn around and walk away.

“I wanted to see if you’re all right.”

My back straightens painfully at the turn of conversation. No, I’m not all right you twit. I’ll never be all right again. “Is this a welfare check Officer Ridler?”

“What? No, of course not.”

“Then it’s none of your business.”

The tender note of his voice stops me in my tracks. Literally. My feet feel cemented to the concrete sidewalk with the sound of his deep velvety voice using my first name. In all of our interactions over the past couple months, he’s only addressed me formally. Hearing Emily pass his lips leaves my chest achingly dry in this humid Louisiana heat.

I close my eyes and inhale deeply through my nose. “I’m fine,” I reply in a quiet voice. The voice I’ve grown accustomed to using over the past couple months. I’ve perfected the tone of a nonthreatening compliant woman in an attempt to deal with the constant questions and harassment. Not that it worked. I’ve learned that getting angry or frightened doesn’t help, though. Yelling back or bursting into tears only gets me lumped back into the “crazy” label people are so fond of using.

I’m not crazy.

No, you’re not. You just failed at being a mother.

“Folks’ve been saying you haven’t been around as much. You know there’s resources available to you.”

“Yes. I know.”

“I’m available to you.”

My eyes pop wide open. Shocked, I turn to face him. Even in the bright sun, I know the redness of his cheeks isn’t from the heat.

“That sounded terrible. I am so sorry.”

Something weird is happening. The sensation starts in my stomach, just above my belly button. It’s like the muscles contract and then that feeling is rising higher and higher into my throat like a scoop of bubbles until a short, staccato giggle pops out.

Yes, a freaking giggle.

Both hands audibly clap over my mouth. My stomach sours in embarrassment.

Officer Ridler steps around me so he’s now facing me instead of at my side. I can feel his eyes scanning my face like a physical touch, but I avoid looking him in the eye. “Did…did you just laugh at me?” He’s astounded and teasing while his dusky eyes flirt with humor.

I shake my head no.

Oh, God. Now something else is happening to me. Something I’m far more acquainted with lately than I’d prefer to be. That sensation roars up my esophagus again, but this time instead of a giggle, my eyes begin to burn and a few hot tears spill onto my cheeks.

“Emily,” he murmurs dejectedly.

I shake my head again as the burn moves from my eyes to my chest.

“Breathe, Emily. Take a breath.”

My breath hitches three times at the reminder to breathe, and I try to choke back the sob threatening to escape. I hold a hand out, palm up, to Officer Ridler, warning him to stay back while I compose myself. The few tears stop as quickly as they started, and I swipe them away angrily.

Not fast enough, though. Passing on my right I hear a scathing remark.

“Mothers of murderers aren’t allowed to cry.”

The words score themselves onto my soul where the others reside. Each strike of the letters burns deep, and I welcome the scorn as my penance.

Wilson fell in love with writing in second grade when she won a young writers’
contest. She spent the years following carrying around a spiral notebook, which
she filled with poetry and short stories detailing the dramatics of being a
young girl. When she hit her college years, she set the notebooks down and fell
in love with reading romance novels. She may have attended college four
separate times, in four different fields, but always knew in her heart writing
was her true passion. She grew up in Duluth, Minnesota and spent her summers in
the cold waters of Lake Superior, but relocated to the Twin Cities with the
love of her life and has two spirited children who make her world go round.

Never before seen excerpt of Resurrecting Her!

Hey all. It’s been a while since I’ve updated the ol’ website, so I thought I’d put together a nice little teaser excerpt for Resurrecting Her! Elias, Marlena, Travis, Sin, and Shelby will all be back on your kindles shortly! So until then, I hope this little excerpt holds you over while I’m working tirelessly to get it perfect for all of you. Enjoy!

His strong fingers curl into the waistband of my jeans. With a sharp tug, he yanks them down under my ass and slides them off my legs. Ever so gently, his palms cup the back of my knees, bringing them close to his face for inspection.

“Tore up your fuckin’ legs, baby.”

I try to sit up. “It’s okay, Elias. I wanted to.”

“Tore up your legs. For me.”

I don’t know if it’s the tone of his voice, but something stops my struggle. I give up and slump back down against the couch.

Bending his neck, he brings my knees closer to his face and tenderly brushes his lips against the sore, scraped skin.

“Elias? You okay?” His behavior is frightening me.

He rests his forehead against my thighs. Placing my feet on the floor, he releases my knees. His hands fit into the curve of my waist, and he just sits quietly and breathes against my bare legs.

“Things have been fucked up around here.”

“Been fighting a lot. Tired. Stressed.”

My heart leaps into my throat. Is he breaking up with me? Oh my god, I think he’s breaking up with me.

“It’s been really hard trying to make you happy since that fuckwad messed with what we had.”

Oh, God.

Suddenly, he sits up, breaking our contact. “We gave it our best, Marlee. We gave it our everything.”

I’m stunned. “I thought things were getting better,” I whisper, pained.

He shakes his head gently, looking away. “We gave it our best.”

A lump forms in my throat. “I don’t know what to say…”

“I do.”

“You do?”

A grin spreads across his handsome face. “April Fool’s.”

XOXO Love from The Revive Series gang.

Title Reveal and Sneak Peek

Next up in The Revive Series, we have Sin and Shelby’s story. This is a novella prequel, which takes place roughly thirteen months before Redesigning Fate. Today, I give you a small excerpt of Unleashing Sin.

This is unedited. ©A. M. Wilson –All Rights Reserved

I am Sin and don’t you forget it!” he roared, and I know it’s cliché but god, did he roar. The sound ripped from his throat in a howl that could rival the fiercest predator. His pain and anger morphed into something I’d never seen before. So yes, he goddamned roared. “I’m not a savior. I’m the fucking devil incarnate. I take shit and ruin it. I’m not your goddamned white knight, Shel. Don’t look at me like I turned your hell into roses. Look around you. Dark walls still surround you. It’s just a different type of prison.”
